Born in Dolwyddelan Castle, near Conwy, around 1173, Llywelyn ap Iorwerth was the greatest Welsh statesman of the Middle Ages. By his death in 1240, he Fr. Dorian Llywelyn, S.J. Fr. Dorian Llywelyn SJ comes from Wales (and is the first Welsh Jesuit since 1679). He holds degrees in English and theology from universities in the UK, Spain, and the US. He has lived and worked in nine countries in the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia, and is fluent in a number of languages. After 13 years as a Rev. Dorian Llywelyn, S.J. leads the Institute for Advanced Catholic Studies at USC. Appointed IACS president in July 2020, Fr. Dorian is a native of Wales, studied at Cambridge and was the first in his family to earn a college degree. He speaks 7 languages and has lived in 9 countries. Fr. In Powys and Deheubarth the unity of the kingdom was never restored; but with the emergence to power in the late 12th century of Llywelyn ap Iorwerth (died 1240), a grandson of Owain Gwynedd, Gwynedd was united once more under Fr. Llywelyn is a native of Wales, and has lived and worked in eight countries in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. He speaks eight languages, including Spanish.
