Cremorne Gardens were popular pleasure gardens by the side of the River Thames in Chelsea, London, located between Chelsea Harbor and the end of the King's Road that flourished between 1845 and 1877. The gardens began after the property was sold in 1845 to Thomas Bartlett Simpson. A Song. In the early 1800s the grounds of Viscount Cremorne's London house, originally known as Chelsea Farm, extended north from the river Thames at Chelsea up to the King's Road. The estate was famous for its elegant gardens, laid out by Nathaniel Richmond. After Lord Cremorne died in 1813, the house passed to Lady Cremorne, his second wife Cremorne Gardens were popular pleasure gardens by the side of the River Thames in Chelsea, London. They lay between Chelsea Harbour and the end of the King's Road and flourished between 1845 and 1877; today only a vestige survives, on the river at the southern end of Cheyne Walk. Cremorne is also a ward of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Cremorne Gardens from south side of Yarra near Col Andersons, ST Gill, 1855. Opened in 1853 on the banks of the Yarra River, the Cremorne Gardens was Melbourne's first amusement park. Established by Englishman James Ellis, the gardens were to imitate the joys of the pleasure garden popularised in England during the 19th century. Passing from Cremorne Gardens eastward through the centre of Chelsea, is a broad thoroughfare, called the King's Road; and by this road we shall now proceed on our way backward towards Sloane Street, picking up such scraps of information respecting the neighbourhood on either side as the records of the district have left for our use.
